NRA Personal Protection In The Home Course

This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for the protection of yourself and your family, and provides information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. The cost of this class is $125.

This course is for law-abiding adult citizens and experienced shooters. Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.

This is an 8-hour course. Students should bring and expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.

Lesson III of this course—Firearms and the Law, and Legal Aspects of Self-Defense—is conducted by an attorney licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and who is familiar with this area of the law, a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) who possesses an intermediate or higher Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificate granted within the state; or an individual currently certified to instruct in this area of the law in Pennsylvania.

The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally recognized range safety officer certification. To become a NRA Range Safety Officer, you must pass the RSO course and demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

You MUST register using the link above. The cost for the class is $85 for BSA (Boy Scouts of America) and Columbia Fish & Game Members, and $140 for non-members.

Basic Pistol Shooting 2024 (Half Day) @ Columbia Fish & Game Clubhouse

A new offering from the training team at Columbia Fish & game, the Basic Pistol Shooting class is a half-day course available at our club. This course is a half-day, 4-hour course. The cost is $80. This course is designed for every level shooter. If you’ve never touched a firearm or you shoot regularly, you will benefit from this course. To be clear, this is not an NRA affiliated or certified course, but rather a basic course designed to teach the fundamentals and safety rules for handling and shooting pistols.

This class is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience. During the course, a team of instructors will teach application of gun safety rules, range protocol, proper handling, loading and unloading procedures, application of pistol shooting fundamentals, stable shooting positions, and live fire.

The course will be held in the clubhouse, while the live fire module will be held on the pistol range (which will be closed during the class). You may bring your own pistol (of any pistol caliber) and ammunition for this class.

Hunter-Trapper Education Class @ Columbia Fish & Game Clubhouse

You MUST REGISTER ONLINE for this class using the link above. Only 40 seats are available.

This is a six-hour training class required by law for all first-time hunters and trappers before they can buy a license. You must pass a certification exam at the end of the class to complete this training. Lunch break is built into the schedule but no lunch is provided.

Important In order to prepare for your class, read Chapters 1, 4, 5 and 9 located at Today’s Hunter & Trapper in PA.

NOTE: You must be at least 11 years of age to register for this class!
