The club is looking for members to join a Land Management Committee. This
committee's objective is to put together a plan for the best use of our new acreage. If interested, contact Carson Frost
via email at carsonf@columbiafishandgame.org
It has come to our attention that many people are either unaware or ignore
the shooting hours posted at our outdoor ranges. As a club, we try remain in good standing with our neighbors and when you
shoot before or after the posted hours, this causes tensions with the surrounding homeowners. The shooting hours at all outdoor
rifle, pistol and shotgun ranges are as follows:
Monday
through Saturday, 8:00am till sunset
Sunday, 10:00am till sunset
Sunset is the time posted in your hunting license manual and is
established by the Game Commission.
The Officers and Directors of Columbia Fish and Game Association would like to
send out a thank you to all who contributed to our capital campaign. So far, 459 members have made contributions to help offset
the costs involved with the acquisition and cleanup of the former Earl and Jacks salvage yard. It's not to late to contribute.
Please send checks to CFG at P.O. Box 96, Silver Spring, Pa. 17575 and mark "capital campaign" on the check.
Members of Columbia Fish and Game Association:
The Board of Directors of Columbia Fish and Game is pleased to announce the purchase
of a 21 acre tract of land adjacent to the club. The purchase is the culmination of a three year effort
by the Board and, as President, I wish to thank the present Board for all their efforts as well as past board members for
their vision that allowed the club to take advantage of this opportunity.
Bordering on the club’s western edge, the tract will provide an effective buffer
zone that will allow us to continue being a good neighbor in our community. Additionally, managed as a
woodland, it will provide the club income for years to come and, with over 700 feet of frontage on Marietta Avenue, it will
provide future generations of the club opportunities to expand programs and services.
Previously an auto salvage yard, the land required an
environmental engineering study prior to purchase. Although showing the land basically clean, the study
did reveal an area requiring further action. This environmental clean-up is part of the ’09-’10
fiscal budget. In addition to the required remediation, however, the Board would like to remove the existing
structures and concrete pads, re-grade certain areas, and prepare the 6 acre area adjacent to Marietta Avenue for reforestation.
Because these expenses would
occur outside of the budget, I am asking the membership to help with this project in two ways. Members
who have access to earthmoving and excavating equipment and would be willing to volunteer their time are asked to contact
Stan Newcomer at 653-4148 to help directly with the project. Also, because this constitutes a one-time
expense, the Board has resolved not to raise dues in this fiscal year, but is asking all members to participate in a capital
campaign. Over the past year, membership has swelled to over 1400 members. If all members
make a contribution allowing this project to proceed, we will all have helped restore a blighted property to native woodland
and participated in affirming our conservation pledge. I want to thank you in advance for your participation.
Sincerely, Sam Weigard
President, CFG
